About Us

The St. Kitts Foundation will be working with the government of St. Kitts & Nevis, community representatives, Auberge Firesky and partners of Christophe Harbour to implement long-term sustainable development, community-based conservation, and sound management of the island's natural resources. Our partnership will create a lasting community benefit mechanism that generates funds to provide local support for all three pillars of sustainable development: social, ecological and economic.

The St. Kitts Foundation is an Ocean Fund hosted by The Ocean Foundation, which is a 501c3 independent, international non-profit corporation. The Ocean Foundation is a boutique community foundation with a specialized practice. Its niche is providing high-end philanthropic advice for the community of donors who care about the coast and oceans. The Ocean Foundation's Board is comprised of individuals with significant experience in marine conservation philanthropy, complemented by a growing advisory board of scientists, policy makers, educational specialists, and others with known expertise. For more information about The Ocean Foundation, please visit www.oceanfdn.org.

Mark J. Spalding J.D., M.P.I.A. (www.markjspalding.com), the President of The Ocean Foundation, will serve as the Executive Director of the St. Kitts Foundation. Kaya Freeman, an expert on international marine policy and a program officer of The Ocean Foundation, will be responsible for the St. Kitts Foundation's day-to-day activities. Formerly a regional manager for the California-based Surfrider Foundation, she focused on ocean-related issues such as marine protected areas, water quality and ocean desalination. Kaya has a Masters degree in International Environmental Policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, Monterey, Calif.

The primary benefactor of the St. Kitts Foundation Fund is Auberge Firesky. This partner is currently developing two hotels on the island's Southeast

Peninsula which are part of a sustainably developed luxury resort community known as Christophe Harbour.
